Designer Rick Owens showed his Fall 2017 menswear collection in Paris this week, and the designer seems to have taken a utilitarian route to his new ensembles.
Male models came down the runway tied up in outfits that looked strikingly like sleeping bags strapped to their bodies, with puffy shapes bundled in odd places.
'You know, I wanted it to be voluptuous and flamboyant,' he told Vogue. 'but then I look at it: It definitely is about strapping yourself in for a bumpy ride.'
New clothes: Rick Owens showed his menswear collection for Fall 2017 on Thursday
The line's a snooze: The designer seems to have been inspired by sleeping bags
The sleeping bag-like material was strapped to several models
He said the collection 'is about strapping yourself in for a bumpy ride'
Several of the models also had their long hair matted in front of their faces
Also big in the collection were pairs of pants that appeared to be made from tarps
Also coming down the catwalk were plenty of wide-leg pants in a variety of fabrics, from a crinkly tarp to the shiny material that goes into making ski pants.
The designer calls the collection 'Glitter' — though there is no sparkle in sight — and styled models with long, matted hair and occasional pale white make-up.
'I wanted to kind of get away from the doom. My last few seasons have been about doom: How do you negotiate things, and things changing, and handling that gracefully. But . . . this cycle ends up being a continuation of the other cycle,' he said.
The tarp pants looked like they were sewn together at the last minute with rough edges
The bulky styles definitely made a big statement on the Paris runway
Each of the models was draped in several layers of clothing
Rick Owens said the name of the collection is Glitter though there is no glitter in it
He added that he wanted to 'get away from the doom' with this collection
