Designer Rick Owens showed his Fall 2017 menswear collection in Paris this week, and the designer seems to have taken a utilitarian route to his new ensembles.

Male models came down the runway tied up in outfits that looked strikingly like sleeping bags strapped to their bodies, with puffy shapes bundled in odd places.

'You know, I wanted it to be voluptuous and flamboyant,' he told Vogue. 'but then I look at it: It definitely is about strapping yourself in for a bumpy ride.'

Also coming down the catwalk were plenty of wide-leg pants in a variety of fabrics, from a crinkly tarp to the shiny material that goes into making ski pants.

The designer calls the collection 'Glitter' — though there is no sparkle in sight — and styled models with long, matted hair and occasional pale white make-up.

'I wanted to kind of get away from the doom. My last few seasons have been about doom: How do you negotiate things, and things changing, and handling that gracefully. But . . . this cycle ends up being a continuation of the other cycle,' he said.
