Meet the goat that thinks he's a dog - and prefers the company of other pooches to that of his own species.

African pygmy goat Hobo loves going for walkies, sitting on his owner's lap on the sofa and playing with his canine friends.

When he was discovered wandering the streets as a stray last August, animal -mad Tracy Flowers couldn't resist giving him a home.

The doting owner even applied for a special Government permit to be able to walk the 19kg goat in public. And she said he definitely turns heads in her local park.

Mum-of-two Tracy, 41, said: "Hobo is the most random little goat I have ever come across.

"He is a quirky little boy, I genuinely think he has no idea he is a goat and thinks he is a dog.

"I have two other goats but they are nothing like Hobo - they act like actual goats but he is happiest when he is with the dogs."

In August last year Hobo taken to Hillcrest Animal Hospital in Chorley after he was found seriously underweight, matted and with snapped horns in Charnock Richard, Lancs.

The hospital posted an appeal on their Facebook page to find his owners but to no avail and after Tracy spotted the post she decided to adopt him.

Tracy, from Leyland, Lancs, juggles running doggy daycare business The Dogs Barracks with fostering hundreds of pooches for Rochdale Dog Rescue.

The real life Dr Doolittle has a staggering five dogs, 14 chickens, four cats, two ferrets, a parrot and three goats of her own.

As Tracy nursed Hobo back to health she noticed he didn't get on with her other pygmy goats Dazzler and Maurice, but took an instant shine to her dogs.

She asked DEFRA for a special permit to walk Hobo in her local park and he is now one of the only goats in the country to have this privilege.

Tracy, who has a mastiff staffie cross, a bulldog and two bichon frises, said the reaction from fellow dog walkers can be hilarious.

"Hobo now comes out for a walk with the dogs every day and he will obediently stay with me even if he is off the lead," she said.

"He expects to go out daily now and if I ever miss a day walking him he starts bleating, leaps out of his pen and comes looking for me in the house.

"The looks we get when people walk past and realise there's a goat ambling along in the pack are priceless.

"Most dogs he meets come over to sniff his behind and don't seem to realise he isn't a dog.

"And some people don't even realise he's not a dog - one lady came over to me and asked 'what breed of dog is that that looks so much like a goat?'"

Tracy admits she would love for Hobo to live in the home she shares with partner Dan, 41 and sons Dillon, 11, and eight-year-old Jaiden but this isn't an option because he isn't house trained.

Instead he lives in a pen in the garden with two chickens but is allowed into the kitchen and conservatory for cuddles whenever he pleases.

Hobo, who loves to 'give kisses' by licking Tracy's face, also rushes over for dog snacks if he sees his furry friends getting a treat and has a whole wardrobe of small dog-sized outdoor coats.

But the naughty goat likes stealing food and will jump up on the kitchen table in his attempts to do so, as well as raiding the vegetable rack at every opportunity.

Tracy said: "Hobo is such a character and has a hilarious sense of humour.

"He is so much fun and is a massive part of our lives now."
