A NAKED Instagrammer is travelling round Australia in the buff to prove that "being nude is not sexual or weird".

Sterre, 21, originally from The Netherlands, set up her Instagram account back in July and already has more than 57,000 followers  thanks to her cheeky posts.

Inspired by Get Naked Australia, her account  a.naked.girl shows her in a number of natural beauty spots enjoying the scenery without her clothes.

Sterre told Daily Mail Australia: "[Get Naked Australia] kind of changed my life, it inspired me. It looked like great fun and I decided I needed to try it."

Already a nature lover she became hooked on her new way of exploring, feeling free with the air on her skin.

But stripping off presented its own challenges for the brave 21-year-old.

Sterre has met a number of challenges since starting the project, including giant spiders, run-ins with mosquitoes and even bumping into a very uncomfortable stranger.

Despite being careful to research remote locations for her shoots she was caught out by one passerby.

She was hiking through the Finch Hatton Gorge in Queensland when was spotted swimming nude in a seculded part of the river.

She said: "I noticed someone had also taken the same path as me and saw me swimming naked.

"He saw me looking back, and the weird thing was that I didn't feel embarrassed because I was naked - but he felt embarrassed because he saw me naked, and took off."

The man later saw her again - fully clothed - further down the trail but turned in a different direction.

The experience confirmed for Sterre that the Instagram page was important for breaking taboos around nudity.

She said: "Being naked still makes other people uncomfortable. It is really a shame that not everyone can see the pleasure of being naked in a non-sexual way.
"I started Instagram without any purpose, but it quickly changed after I received so many comments and questions."
